Andrea Burks, LMHC, CAP

Andrea Burks serves as Clinical Director of Bayou Wellness and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Qualified Supervisor, and Certified Addictions Professional. Since founding the practice in 2015, her vision has been to build an interdisciplinary team of professionals committed to addressing and integrating the many layers of individual and family wellness. Andrea earned her master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University and her bachelor’s in Family and Child Sciences from Florida State University. She has worked in the mental health field since 2009 in both private practice and agency settings. She is trained in both Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and the Gottman Method for couples counseling. 

“My primary aim for this practice is to be a vessel for the work the Holy Spirit desires to accomplish in the lives of those He leads here. With an ever-growing body of mental health research, powerful new theoretical models for counseling seem to be proliferating faster than I can keep up! Every new modality I learn breathes fresh excitement and motivation into my work, making the therapy office feel alive. Therapy is powerful. Therapy is healing. Therapy positions us for greater and deeper levels of freedom. 

Even still, apart from the work of Jesus Christ, traditional psychotherapy alone falls short of true soul healing, which is only and always the supernatural work of God. Processing stories, deepening insight, releasing emotion, and learning new skills are all essential for health — and they must be done through the lens of God’s creative design and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who is the greatest counselor of all.

My favorite work is gospel-centered discipleship through biblical counsel, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, where clinical insight and spiritual truth converge. Here, therapy moves beyond awareness and behavior change into soul-level healing and life transformation through the person and work of Jesus Christ."🌿
